A deposit of £125.00 is to be paid to ensure your place on the course
A balance of £300.00 is due on the first day of the class.

95% of Contemporary dolls start life with an Artist and a block of clay. This goes for dolls from those you find in the toy aisle at your local toy shop right through to the doll kits which are on the market for the Reborn Artists.

As more and more Artists produce their work into other mediums, mainly Vinyl the OOAK Market has seen a dramatic decline, which is such a shame as a sculpture is a one off piece that can never be replicated and is a true piece of Art.

To try and help revive the OOAK Market and regain the respect and credit that these wonderful dolls deserve; Ruth has decided to offer a series of Sculpting courses throughout 2012. Starting with Level 1 which is on offer here.

What will you Learn?

During the Level 2 class;

It is our aim that you will go away with a complete sculpted baby at the end of the Level 2 course, this will of course depend on you as an individual Artist. Unlike some other Doll Art forms, sculpting is something which can not be forced, it is easy to get a "sculpting block" but sculpting in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, I doubt very much that this will happen. Time permitting you will also be able to paint and put together your baby.

YOU MUST HAVE COMPLETED LEVEL 1

This course will be a lot more intensive than the Level 1 course, so If you do not finish your baby you will be provided with the correct size body, the correct fillings, Paints and brushes so that you may finish your baby when you return home. Ruth will also be available for follow up help when you return home, so you will not be alone.

Make an Armature for a 16" - 18" DOLL
Work from pictures of real babies
Add the base layers of clay to form the correct shape skull
Position and sculpt the neck
Sculpt realistic facial features and be guided to correct anatomical positioning
Sculpt 3/4 arms and be shown in detail how to achieve realistic creases and skin folds
Sculpt an open hand with straight fingers
Sculpt a closed hand with a curled fist
Sculpt 3/4 legs with knee's and anklebones
Sculpt realistic baby feet with realistic creases and skin folds
Sculpt toes and detailed nail beds
Sculpt a unisex tummy and chest plate to fit your doll
Bake all your clay parts
You will be shown how correctly size a body for your sculpt
Painting the clay and curing the paint
Trim the Armatures and Assemble the doll

It is a requirement that you have completed Level 1 before moving onto a Level 2 course

If you would like to book both classes at the same time, that is perfectly fine, but your Level 1 course must take place prior tot he Level 2 course.

Each Course is certificated, you will receive both a printed framed certificate and you will also receive a digital Certificate to display on the internet.

The course will take place at the Discover Dolls Head Quarters classroom which is fully set up for an enjoyable class with plenty of natural lighting and facilities. Our courses are very relaxed and friendly, we will break for lunch for 45 minuets and tea and coffee will be readily available throughout the course

All the babies shown here were sculpted by Ruth who will be sculpting alongside you as well as demonstrating each element covered in the class. You will also have the opportunity to study some finished OOAK's which Ruth will have on hand.
